Ahhh Ye Olde Renaissance Fair! I had a very cool opportunity to wander the infamous Pleasure Faire for two days back in May thanks to Michael Burian who has been photographing the crazy culture for over a decade. It was my first time attending since I was a young boy, but it’s just as boisterous as ever.
The joust is Michael’s bread and butter. He loves it! So, it was fun to have hime show me the ropes, but then for me to show him what my sports/journalist mind saw, and how I calmed the chaos. I even dragged my 400mm lens around for the quintessential peak action impalement. For me, however, I had most fun photographing the random and hilarious interactions throughout the rest of the event. At the end of the day, it’s a close-knit community with camaraderie among photographers just like the festivals I attend.
