For three years I lived down the street from the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, but only once did I wake up to photograph its sunrise. Now that I live a mobile life I've found myself waking up close to the beach and exploring during those early hours of the day. This particular morning I opened my eyes around 6am to the sight of the interior of my Volkswagen and drove a minute and a half to the reserve. It was chilly, but I grabbed my camera and went for a stroll. It was such a nice surprise to come across four Blue Herons building a nest in the palm trees against the saturated sunrise. A beautiful morning!
